Video: New Drive Technology for Intralogistics

Advances in motion control move smart DCs and fulfillment centers forward

The intralogistics industry is moving quickly in response to innovation and disruption. These changes demand motion control solutions that help warehousing, fulfillment and distribution centers keep pace with e-commerce and other emerging retail models. In this educational session, originally presented during ProMat Digital Experience 2021, I explain how to implement compact servo technologies and motor-driven roller (MDR) solutions to save space and boost functionality.

New drive technologies offer the flexibility and scalability that modern intralogistics systems require, such as automatically handling small lot sizes with highly customized requirements and more. Another highlight is the ELM72xx servo drive series, which boosts capabilities for end of line, auto-sizing, order fulfillment and other intralogistics tasks. With installation directly into DIN-rail-mounted I/O segments, these components also reduce space requirements in control cabinets. With a 24-48 V power range, this ultra-compact servo technology is ideal for mobile intralogistics and parcel applications, including shuttles, AGVs and AGRs.

Beckhoff offers various options for taking drive technology outside the cabinet, including integrated drive technology and the EP7402 EtherCAT motor driven roller (MDR) controller. Offering optimal control for multi-zone conveying systems, the EP7402 is a compact, two-channel motor output stage for BLDC motors used in MDRs, regardless of the conveyor or roller motor vendor. Watch the video to learn how to leverage these new technologies and others to boost flexibility, reduce maintenance efforts and increase overall efficiency in your material handling applications.
